Why do you want to join Banking Industry?
Reason: During the interview, The IBPS panel will definitely want to know your reason for joining the banking industry. AND, the reason must be sound. Answers like Banking is a stable sector, or Banking is a reputable job won’t make the cut. Banking is a service. The panel wants to know why YOU think you are fit for a service sector.
Why don’t you try in your own field? (in case you are from a different stream)
Reason: The panel wants to know what’ll will make you stay in Banking sector. Many Engineers or non-commerce graduates are looking to make a career in banking industry. And currently, the door is open to all. And frankly speaking there’s no one good answer to this question. Imagine the IBPS Interview Panel listening same answer to the question over and over. They’ll get frustrated and won’t listen to it no matter how genuine your case may be. So prepare an answer that is different and sound. Anything the interview panel hasn’t listened for the question, yet!
You seem overqualified for the job?
Reason: The IBPS Interview Panel asks this question because they know that overqualified people will make a run for it the first opportunity they get. They won’t stay for long. Answers like job satisfaction and job security will incur terrible cross questioning. Keep in mind, of all the IBPS Interview Questions, this one is the most important one. What is job satisfaction? What is job security? Any banker (INCLUDING ME) knows this is just bluff. There is hardly any job satisfaction. Most of the time, the pressure on a banker is tremendous. Job security? There’s no such thing in today’s world. Prepare an answer that goes well with your personality and is realistic than idealistic.
What are your strengths and weakness?
Reason: The IBPS Interview panel asks this question to know how much you know about yourself. Almost everyone focuses on his/her strengths. But talk about weakness and you’ll get vague answers. A weakness should be something that is desirable in an employee from an employer point of view. Example, sometimes I get over involved at my work and can’t devote too much time to my family. This is a weakness, but an employer wants an overindulging employee. Besides, everyone knows after Banking industry, your social life becomes as good as nil. However, you’ll also get cross questioning on your weakness. Like “what are you doing to rectify it”? A probable answer can be better management of your work. But have an example ready in case the interview panel wants you to give an example from your life

Reason: The IBPS interview panel wants to know how you make the most out of this question. This is not a parting question. Nor a formality. This question is thrown to make a last impression of you. Never say I don’t have anything to ask. Even worse, don’t ask about office timings, wage revision, or anything even mildly stupid. Something that’s interesting and competent. An example can be: “I have heard about CAIIB and JAIIB exams, but not very sure about it works. How exactly would they help me climb the career ladder. Or, are there other equally competent exams?” Now this will give an impression that your serious about banking, and competent at the same time.
