    Hello Sir,
I am Btech graduate from ECE stream.I passed out in 2015.I tried my hand at government jobs through Gate but was unsuccessful.I am shortlisted for interview for IPPB PO.So I was wondering if I am asked about the gap,is it wise to tell them I was preparing for Bank exams during the gap instead of telling the truth??I got placed in Campus Recruitment drive but didn’t go to that job because I was not interested in Software field. So is it ok if I mention it??I also got other jobs in 2 Banks. So if I was asked about my achievements, should I tell them about my other job offers???
Also what is the reasonable answer about why I opted for Banking field instead of trying for core government jobs from my graduation stream??Is it ok if I tell them since I failed to pass Gate exams,I opted for others like Banks??

Hi there, I’d be really grateful if you could help me out here. I passed my B.com in 2008. Thereafter, I joined ICWA(institute of cost and works accountants). I managed to pass the intermediate in 2011 but due to some reason, I never appeared the final. For the past two years, while studying for job exams, i have been working in a totally unrelated field as an admin for a website related to gaming. Now, i have my SBI po Gd and PI coming up. Could you please suggest how do I explain in the best possible way such a huge gap in my education and why I dropped out of ICWA, in order to avoid having a major negative impact on me. Thanks in advance.

  44. Sorry, but all the posts under IBPS are open for all. And no special posts for Commerce Graduates even in Specialist Officers. Hard Luck!

  45. Puneet, you can get tips on these questions from our following post

    http://www.bankersambition.com/top-5-sbi-ibps-interview-questions/

  46. Bank Jobs says:

What are the bank job options for a commerce graduate? Banks usually ask graduation as the basic criteria for their recruitment, but is there any post that need only commerce (B.com) graduates in banks? Thanks in advance

  47. Puneeth says:

Why do you want to come to bank from IT industry?
    2. How do you fit for bank industry
    3. Why do we want to hire you

  48. Yes, It’s allowed. In fact, it’s always best to apply for both.

  49. Sridevi says:

Sir, can I apply for both the clerck as well as po exam of ibps in same year.is allow to apply or not? Please answer this question.

  50. Yes, Ace! These questions are generic and could be asked in any bank exams. Private or Public.

  51. Pooja, If you want, you may choose not to disclose your MBA. If so, please remember that you’ll face question regarding the time gap. In Fact, it’s better if you hide your MBA details. Higher qualified people also have higher attrition rate. And so, you might get lower interview marks. Unless convinced otherwise.

  52. pooja says:

I completed my graduation in 2010…after that complete mba in 2013….but mere pass mba 3rd sem ki dmc nai hai…I want to apply for ibps po 2015….my question is this ki mai qualification mai mba mention kru ya na kru…because interview ke time har semester ki Markshet puchte h…pls tell me sir….I request you…

  53. ace says:

Sir, are these questions also relevant for interview in the pvt bank as i am going to appear in the Axis bank interview as fresher.

  54. ace says:

Sir, are all these questions also valid for the interview in pvt. bank, like i am going to appear for the axis bank interview as a fresher so in that case also I should prepare these questions?

  55. John Nash says:

very nice collection.Thank u dushyant. Please post some good mcq collection on computer awareness.

  56. Unless you are extremely thorough with the subjects you learned, I would advice you not to mention it. The degree will not impress anyone in the panel. What they will see is whether you learned everything sincerely or not. For the same reason, Engineering students face technical questions in the bank exams, too! Ironic, isn’t it!

  57. riya says:

Sir can i mention d cs executive degree in banks invertiew??

  58. There is no ECE Application in Banking Sector. Be straight forward.

  59. Vikash Kumar says:

Sir,you are doing marvelous job in every area.I m preparing for BOB manipal interview. Can u help me to download audio of the interview it will be really very helpful to me.Your PDF is judt Awesome.Thank you

  60. Pradhyumna Kumar Goud says:

if they ask me is there any ece applications in banking sector

  61. As far as I’ve seen, only ECE students enter banking sector from the entire engineering stream (including myself). I’m an ECE graduate and was asked the very same question. However, the answer lies in the situation I was exposed to that made me alter my stream. Like 2007 Recession and no vacancies, etc. Whatever be your reason, you should show confidence. What I replied back then:
“Sir, engineering helped me realize my strengths and weakness. I understood that I’m a people’s person and have a easy going personality. Like you said, I could have gone in core sectors. Given the 2007 recession, I couldn’t. So I decided to be versatile and try for other sectors where my graduation stream is NOT a barrier. (Told about my work experience in Amazon and Google). Since, there’s huge vacancy in banking sector right now, it’s golden opportunity for guys like me. Once this hiring streak is over, the next streak is probably gonna take 25-30 years. I want to strike the iron while it’s hot”

  62. Depends from person to person and situation to situation. There’s no one answer to this question.

  63. I have been in 3 banks till date and from what I’ve seen they don’t check the IBPS Application Form. While its still an issue, I think that they won’t reject your candidature. Experience is rarely checked with caution. However, marksheets are checked cautiously.

  64. Devinder Singh says:

    Hello Sir,

I have a question that while applying for ibps po 4 i did not mention that I am working with state bank as clerk from past one year.
But during my interview for the ibps po 4 in Feb. I have mentioned my experience to document verifing officer bcoz at that time I have got the approval from state bank to appear in ibps po 4 interview and I was allowed to appear in the interview by the officer and my experience was also included by the officer. Now I have been selected with punjab sind bank as po.
My question is that can psb reject my candidature as I haven’t mention the work experience during ibps application registration and have mentioned it only at the time of interview.
Please reply sir this is making me very nervous.

  65. Pradhyumna Kumar Goud says:

sir i am a btech ece graduate, how can i reply to the question like being a btech graduate y u preffered banking sector?? u have lot of companies like bhel bsnl etc in ur core side??what will be the best reply for these questions

  66. ketan says:

Sir can you tell me,the proper & best answer for question ‘Why did you left your previous job?

  67. swati says:

    thnku sir

  68. Always concentrate on easy questions, whatever section you are attempting. There’s no shortcut to success nor any secret techniques. Just how much easy questions you can attempt in the shortest possible time. Do read through my post on “IBPS and SBI Recruitment” and understand strategy needed to clear these exams.

  69. swati says:

sir my ibps clerk result came today and i am not selected in this exam i got59.6 from m.p, without doing any bank coching i have been prepearing for 4 years bt didn’t get final selection ab mera oriental insurance account officer ka may me exam h plz sir do help me final selection k liye me kese prepration kru .

  70. Not entirely. But you should know it anyways. After all you’re entering banks even though not in mainstream.

  71. sudhir says:

  73. neelu says:

    Thanks sir….i got new password….thanks

  74. The only way left is to try the “Forgot Password” button. If you know the mobile number or email id you mentioned while entering the form, you can reset your password in no time.
    1. Click Forgot Password button during the login screen.
    2. Enter your reg ID along with Email ID or phone number.
    3. Enter new password.
    4. Login using new password and get the application reprint.

  75. neelu says:

  76. Pritam says:

Sir,I passed out mca with 75% marks in 2011.Then I qualified gate and did mtech in software engg. from a govt. univ.(passed out in 2013 with 73% marks). However, I was unable to get a lecturership job due to which I started prep. for ibps it officer exam.I applied for the same as mca passout(didn’t mention mtech bcoz. sw engg was not given in the subject list in the online form). Will there be any problem if I mention about mtech during the interview or should I skip it?If I skip it then I will have to justify a 3 year gap after doing my mca…Plz. reply what should I do?.Thanks in advance…

  77. If that’s the case, then you don’t need to worry about anything. If it’s not salary based, you can relax 🙂

  78. swati says:

yes sir i did a big mistak, me sbi life me commission basis pe work kr hu its not salary based,or mere koi v document wha par submit ni h,30march k baad me apna code cancel kra lungi ab to koi problem ni hogi na sir

  79. Guest says:

thnku for ur reply sir,yes sir i did a big mistak me wha par commission basis pr work kr rhi hu its not salary based or koi v orignal document wha par submit ni h,me 30 march ko me apna code cancel kra rhi hu ab to koi problem ni hogi

  80. Swati, what you did was unethical. You should have gone through the proper channels. But what’s done been done. If you’re selected, you should leave the job before your joining. Also, if you have submitted any documents in SBI Life (domicile, or reliving letter of previous job), get them released before your joining.
AFAIK unless someone explicitly complains about you, you don’t have anything to worry about.

  81. swati says:

sir me ibps clerk interview k liye select hui hu or sbi life me agent ki job kr rhi hu application form fill krte time na mene experience share kiya or interview k time noc nhi lgaya kya isse meri job me aage problem ho skti h ? kya me avi kuch kr skti hu plz sir meri qurey ka answer dijiye.. mujhe kya krna chahiye ab

  82. Congratulations, Khushboo! Hope your get your top bank preference in the exam 🙂

  83. Khushboo Yadav says:

thanku so much 4 d reply..i gave my interview yesterday and did the same..hobby which i mentioned in my bio data form took the direction of interview in my desired direction..n it became one of the best interviews i have ever given….

  84. For this you need to understand the concept of Red Herring. A distraction deliberately planted to take the interviewers off the track that you don’t want them to lead. In your case, BE Honors is too much to hide. Avoid mentioning Honors in your interview. Otherwise, they’ll really test your technical.
Another thing is to mention something flashy that will cause interviewers to ask questions about that. A red herring. Dig in your past and mention something that is bound to make interviewers focus on that. Unfortunately, that’s all we can tell right now given the info you provided.

  85. Khushboo Yadav says:

sir i have done B.E.(Hons.) in computer science engineering…but i am not good at my technical knowledge…how should i avoid technical questions from my background if my interview panel asks about it…kindly do reply…

  86. You could actually ask this during the verification process. If they allow you, go ahead. We would strictly advise you NOT to bring this up directly in the interview. Bring this during the verification and decide based on their response.
On a side note, quitting the job during probation doesn’t matter. You should have mentioned that. That’s why we emphasized so much on our post here ( http://www.bankersambition.com/sbi-ibps-recruitment-tips-suggestions/ )to fill up the form very carefully.

  87. Definitely, we’ll help you! But could you tell us what you’re planning to reply. Let’s discuss that. Your reply would be more appropriate to your situation. Let’s see if we could tweak that a bit.

  88. yograj says:

Thank you sir for answering and also for above Q&A……sir just tel me last thing sir what would be good answer to convince then why banking after mca? actually i had preaped it earlier but now i get confused after listening lots of answers from frnds. so plz tell this one also this is last question sir.

  89. Nandini says:

Sir in my application form I didnt quote my work experience as I quit the job before my probation. I have my joining and relieving letter but no experience certificate. Can I share my work experience during the interview?

  90. These people usually ask about data warehousing and data mining. Things that are quite common like bits and bytes. Or your project during the finals.
In PO exams, it’s quite common for an expert on computers/mechanical to be on the panel. It’s highly unlikely for such a person to be on clerk panel. If your basics are clear, your only problem would be convincing the panel “why banking after mca? and that too in clerk”

  91. Then you have the best tool at hand for the interview. When you say you have given prior exams, use it as your strength during the interview. The problem is never the gap, the real problem is to convince them that you won’t leave the bank when you’ll get the next opportunity. That’s sole problem of being overqualified. Ok so lets see:
“Sir, I completed my Mtech in 2011. However, I saw that (give your reasons). So, I decided to shift my focus towards those sectors that have high vacancies preferably govt. I was planning to give IBPS in 2012 itself, but the last date already went by. I gave the exams again in 2013, but couldn’t clear. In 2014, I cleared the Clerk Exams.”
Another question is are you not overqualified for clerk?
“Sir! I don’t plan on staying as a clerk. I intend to go forward as an officer. If not directly, then with departmental exams. Clerk is just my stepping stone in the banking industry. I don’t see why I can’t be a clerk. In fact, it’d be my privilege to start learning from the scratch. Things I can’t learn if selected directly as an officer”
I hope this helps. Feel free to tweak the answer to your likes.

  92. yograj says:

Sir I have cleared Clerk IV and completed MCA in 2013 sir plz tell what question may be asked in clerk interview on computer section or related to IT……….my interview is on 16Feb in Pune. Plz tell me sir.

  93. ritu says:

i have shown mtech, and in 2013 i have given po and clerk ,i qualify clerk but didnot selected

  94. ritu says:

Sir i have given cgl 2013

  95. Since you’ve filled it as Vijay in the online application form, better stick with that one. Also, provide the affidavit voluntarily as a sign of good will. If you think they won’t notice, you’re wrong. Just give the affidavit and explain your situation. They’ll surely understand.

  96. Sorry, Ravish, but we didn’t quite get your question. Can you elaborate a bit?

  97. Saumitra Gupta says:

    I hv 2 issues…

In my online application I wrote my mother’s surname as “vijay” (mentioned in my passport) but in my marksheet its written as “gupta” so now I am confused :

    1. what surname shd be written in Biodata form : vijay or gupta
    2. shd i give affidavit voluntarily without asking or wait for them to ask that both persons are same?

I don’t hv BE degree, just hv provisional certficate with consolidated marksheet..will it b problem in interview?

  98. Ravish Shah says:

Sir I have so many marksheets in graduation. What should I say to the interviewers?

  99. Have you given any exams in between? Or, any reason you’re thinking of giving in the interviews?

  100. ritu says:

sir, i have done be in 2009,mtech in 2011,after that i did 2 year lecturership but didnt show experience, then how to justify gap from 2011 to 2015.Now i m qualified for ibps clerk4..Please suggest

  101. Like we said earlier, there’s no one answer to this question. Whatever rows your boat is just fine. You may say that you were preparing for competitive. Or, you were working somewhere. Nobody in the interview panel is going to judge you for the gap. What they want is a confident answer and rock solid conviction. When you ask, “what can be my reply?”, you’re looking for a good excuse. And that’s where the interviewers will shred you. Instead of an excuse, prepare for that answer that you’re comfortable with.

  102. amitkumar says:

Sir I completed my btech in 2011, since then i am unemployed. Sir kindly suggest me how can I manage this gap infront of interview board in my ibps clerk interview.

  103. Convey the same to them. They’ll definitely ask you this question.

Start with your financial problems. Don’t tell the entire story, but do mention that you were HARD PRESSED to leave the studies AGAINST your wishes. Also, convey that you always wanted to finish your studies and completed it the FIRST CHANCE you got!
Next, explain that after so many hardships you still wanted to complete your academic goals. Hence, you went for MBA.
So, the takeaway should be: The gap wasn’t by choice. Rather, by circumstances rather unavoidable. Just be honest with them. Don’t try to gain sympathy. Rather, show that you are a born fighter.

  104. bindu shalini says:

    Hi sir.

after completion of my SSC, due to family financial problems i discontinue my studies and worked in different shops…after five years of gap i got time to continue my studies .so i completed my degree in distance education, after that i completed my MBA in regular.now i am preparing for bank exams and selected for interview….

Now my problem is, how to convey my educational gap properly to the interviewers and how to show my confidence and hard work to reach this position

    Plzz….plzzz….help me out in this….

  105. Am sorry. But none of us here are MBA finance. Or even from commerce background. So, can’t help you with that.

  107. Explain the same to them. Also, mention that this is the very reason you have lost faith in private jobs. And for the same reason, you are now preparing for govt jobs for the last three years. Also, have a reply ready for “Why Banking?” I have posted tips on this question in my other article.

  109. I know many candidates who made provisional certificate and cleared the interview. I hope you had already made your provisional. As for Caste Certificate, your certificate from the local SDM will do. Please see this official IBPS Page. It’s written that following authorities can sign the certificate.
    http://www.ibps.in/career_pdf/Format_of_SC_ST_Certificate.pdf
District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate/ Collector / Deputy Commissioner / Additional Deputy Commissioner / Deputy Collector/I Class Stipendiary Magistrate / Sub-Divisional Magistrate / Extra-Asst. Commissioner / Taluka Magistrate / Executive Magistrate.
Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate / presidency Magistrate.
Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar.
Sub-Divisional Officers of the area where the candidate and / or his family normally resides.

  110. You can admit that you were young and carefree. You weren’t all that serious in your initial years, but as the years went by, you became more serious about studies as in evident from your clerk scores that you were among the few worthy candidates who cleared the prestigious clerk exams. The interviewers already know this and coming from you, they’ll know that you are an honest candidate! That’s one way to approach this problem. But you may revise this answer any way you want!

But actually I haven’t applied for IBPS prior to this one and it will be clear even by looking into my application form(in which this is clearly mentioned). So what to do then?

  117. For a banking job, you don’t need to justify anything! What you need is conviction! I, too, am an ECE graduate with some gap before I joined Banking. What you can say is that you applied for previous IBPS exams but couldn’t qualify (in detail). Telling about GATE may land you in trouble (depending upon the interviewer). They might get the impression that you may not stick with Banking sector and will leave for other Engineering jobs soon! This is the only thing you need to avoid.

If you haven’t already visited this page, you might want to do so.

  118. vasudevkrishna says:

sir how can I justify my gap of two years after my graduation(2012).. In between I actually appeared for GATE I did qualify(with 51.33 marks) but didn’t get any interview call owing to higher cutoff in my stream(ECE). I seriously want to make this interview count as I really like the growth prospect in career in the banking sector. Please suggest what should be my reply to such a question. Thanking you in advance

  119. We really appreciate your kind words, Prateek!
